Some Dismay

Ventured to some stores alone yesterday with my mom's Dodge to find beet seeds. I went to Tractor Supply Co. but they had ran out/ brought their seed cart into the back of their store. Meanwhile I purchased next year's farmer's almanac-which I have never used before. Drove down to Home Depot, searched their gardening area but the shelves where the seeds were a few months ago was gone...I made sure and asked the employees if they didn't sell them anymore, he replied with a no...BUT I found a nifty box of an organic mushroom kit! So I grabbed that for $10, the man who sold me the kit had cool metal piercings in his ear. I then go to walmart mainly to cash my check, but I wanted to stop by their garden center. No seeds, just plants & tools....a Venus fly trap, that needs my help(turning black from too many nutrients)? You're mine! ~~~~~~Bought my handsome Venus and a water gauge....and c.50 pies...While there I saved $10 for trying some chevre up the street from my house-eventually I will try farm fresh goat's milk!

So remembering the one closest to my home, I stopped by the local hardware store, yet, they were closed....Is this a clear sign that I shouldn't grow beets this time? Why the Dicken's would I be so warned from not growing food...?
It could also be the naive notion that people think they can't grow fall vegetables, perhaps because people grow gardens for decor or hobby around here. It's very disappointing, since I would really want to get some local beet seeds. Yet so far I have grown veggies from farmer's markets out of the veggie's root cuttings-garlic, leek, onion. I already have my beans germinating in the ground too.
Since I am only a beginner gardener I have accepted that now isn't the time to have beets. I want to buy local as much as I possibly can, and having a few veggies for a FALL garden is plenty for me for now....plus, i am hoping to find some good potted indoor plants like rosemary or chives!
